TJU BME Discipline Ranks Top Two in 2024 BCSR by SHRC

On October 15th, 2024 Best Chinese Subjects Ranking(BCSR) was released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy(SHRC), a professional higher education evaluation agency in China. Tianjin University’s Biomedical Engineering (BME) discipline ranked among the top two nationwide, placing it in the top 3% of disciplines in China.

Covering 94 first-level disciplines, the ranking targets all the universities that had authorized academic master degree programs in the first-level discipline by the end of 2023.

The publication features universities that fall within the top 50% of their respective disciplines, totaling 486 universities and 4,924 discipline points recognized in the ranking.

The BME discipline at TJU was established in 1978, and enrolled its first batch of five-year undergraduates in 1980, setting a precedent of China's medicine-engineering joint education. Since its establishment, the BME has stayed true to a sense of national responsibility and Tianjin University's commitment, consistently leading the charge of China's medical-engineering educational reforms and integration of medicine and engineering. Over the past four decades, the BME of TJU has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents, including top scientific experts and key figures in the field, as well as leaders of medical device industry. The establishment of the National Key Laboratory for Advanced Medical Materials and Medical Devices further underscores its dedication to serving the country's medical technology, health industry, and regional high-quality economic and social development..

The indicator system for the SHRC Best Chinese Subjects Ranking encompasses five categories: talent cultivation, platform projects, achievement awards, academic papers, and high-end faculty team respectively, with 18 sub-indicators and over 70 observed variables reflecting disciplinary competitiveness.

Previously, in the 2023 SHRC Best Chinese Subjects Ranking, TJU BMEdiscipline ranked among the top three nationwide. In the SHRC Best Chinese Majors Ranking , Tianjin University's Intelligent Medical Engineering discipline was ranked first with an A+ rating for two consecutive years, in both 2023 and 2024.
